Anchored in the Word

In 2025, while waiting in an airport between speaking engagements, I found myself reflecting on the direction of my ministry. For more than 35 years, I was blessed with opportunities to preach and teach at the gracious invitations of congregations, lectureships, and workshops. Those invitations carried me across 15 states and into two foreign countries—privileges for which I remain deeply grateful.

 

At this stage of life, with more ministry behind me than ahead of me, I made the decision to step back from travel-based speaking engagements. While those experiences were meaningful and formative, the demands of frequent travel and time away from home gradually became more burdensome than beneficial. I wanted to invest my energy where it matters most: serving the Brown Trail Church of Christ and being present with my family. Let’s just say airports and I are now on friendly—but distant—terms.

 

That change in focus gave rise to Anchored in the Word, an online space designed to extend my ministry beyond the walls of my home congregation—without requiring a suitcase. Here you’ll find video recordings of sermons preached at the Brown Trail Church of Christ, along with select sermons and lectures from earlier years and a few recorded at home. Many videos are accompanied by written resources such as sermon summaries, devotional thoughts, and questions intended to encourage reflection, study, and faithful application of Scripture.

 

You’ll also find a small collection of articles I’ve written over the years, most of which originally appeared in church bulletins or blogs.
