Why Study Apologetics?

Sooner or later, every Christian gets put on the spot. A co-worker asks an unexpected question. A child comes home from college with doubts. A quiet moment of reflection raises questions we’ve never fully answered to our own satisfaction. “Why do you believe in God?” “Why trust the Bible?” “Why Jesus?”

In this sermon, I began a series titled Reasons to Believe by exploring the purpose and importance of Christian apologetics—a branch of study that isn't just for scholars or theologians. Rather, it's an important study for all believers, enabling us to understand and articulate the reasons for our faith. Scripture never calls us to blind faith or intellectual laziness, but to a faith grounded in truth—truth that can be examined, understood, and defended with gentleness and respect.

This lesson explores what apologetics is, why it matters, and how it strengthens our own faith while equipping us to lead others to Christ.
